You walk into your favorite pub and the usual crowd is in full attendance, but the place is strangely quiet. You hear a few whispers and notice that every eye is focused on a solitary figure seated in the corner booth, the best seat in the house with a view of the water. You blink twice, rub your eyes, and look again. It really is him. "Jesus Christ" - you hear yourself whisper, without irreverence. Everyone watches him; some staring unabashedly, others shooting frequent sideways looks. But no one approaches him, and there is a perfect radius of ten feet or so around him into which no one enters. Jesus, dressed in jeans and a light blue flannel shirt is staring intently out the window as if in deep thought, completely unaware of the attention his presence there has drawn. You don't remember nudging your way through the crowd or your feet carrying you to the edge of his table or your brain giving your mouth permission to speak, but then you hear it...your own voice saying... “May I join you?” Jesus looks up with kind eyes and in his smile you know instantly that he was expecting you. "Of course" he says, and then with a hint of mischief in his voice..."Alaskan Amber right? I've ordered us a pitcher...It's really good to see you, what’s on your mind?" |
